Senate Majority Leader Thune Blasts Democrats for Endangering National Security
Senate Majority Leader John Thune delivered a scathing rebuke of Democrats Tuesday, accusing them of holding America's critical security infrastructure hostage during a dangerous standoff over government funding.
The South Dakota Republican didn't mince words when describing the Democrat obstruction tactics that have crippled essential homeland security operations, including the cyber office that protects our nation from Iranian threats.
Democrats Playing Politics with National Security
"They are holding all these agencies of government hostage, including TSA, including the cyber office which runs all of our cyber operations," Thune declared on Fox News' Special Report. "And here we are living in a dangerous world where we're worrying about Iranian cyber operations."
This is exactly the kind of reckless partisanship that puts American lives at risk. While our enemies plot against us, Democrats are more concerned with political games than protecting the homeland.
TSA Chaos Exposes Democrat Priorities
Airports nationwide are experiencing massive disruptions as TSA agents abandon their posts due to the Democrat-engineered shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. American travelers are paying the price for Democrat obstruction.
"There are a whole range of DHS functions that are funded by that appropriations bill that the Democrats are choosing not to open," Thune explained. "I don't know how you can defend a 'defund law enforcement' argument which is essentially what they're making."
SAVE America Act: Common Sense Under Attack
The gridlock centers around the SAVE America Act, President Trump's essential legislation requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. It's basic common sense that only American citizens should decide American elections.
"This is about safe and secure elections in this country and making sure that we have an election process that is actually with the right people, not just the illegals who are in this country, have an opportunity to vote," Thune stated.
GOP Forces Democrats on the Record
Republican leadership is strategically forcing Democrats to defend the indefensible. Voter identification enjoys broad bipartisan support among real Americans, making the Democrat position politically toxic.
"What we wanted to do is put them on the record, force them to defend a position which we think is indefensible, particularly with where the American people are on this," Thune told Fox News.
The GOP will allow amendments during debate before filing cloture for a final vote requiring 60 votes to advance. This gives every senator a chance to stand with the American people or expose themselves as radical obstructionists.
Trump's Legislative Priority
President Trump has made clear that voter identification is non-negotiable, threatening to block other legislation until Congress acts on election integrity. That's the kind of strong leadership America needs.
"It's a big priority for the president," Thune confirmed. "There are a lot of people across the country who want to see this voted on, and we will guarantee a vote at the end of that, and we'll see where people stand."
Americans deserve leaders who put national security and election integrity first, not partisan politics. The choice couldn't be clearer.
