Pokemon GO's Mega Finale Ends Soon: Last Chance for Rare Mewtwo and Starters
American trainers, the clock is ticking. Pokemon GO's Mega Finale event wraps up today at 6 pm local time, and with it goes your shot at six exclusive Pokemon, including two Mega Mewtwo forms and the rare Armored Mewtwo. This is a limited-time window, and once it closes, these creatures are gone for the foreseeable future.
What Pokemon Are Leaving After the Mega Finale Event?
The Mega Finale event, running September 5 and 6, is the grand finale of Pokemon GO's 10th anniversary celebration, which coincides with the Pokemon franchise's 30th anniversary. Players can still grab these exclusive Pokemon before the deadline:
- Mega Mewtwo X (available only today, September 5)
- Mega Mewtwo Y (available only tomorrow, September 6)
- Armored Mewtwo (from five-star raids)
- Mega Chesnaught (via Timed Research path)
- Mega Delphox (via Timed Research path)
- Mega Greninja (via Timed Research path)
Both Mega Mewtwo X and Y come from Super Mega Raids and award a Mewtwo with a Special Background, regardless of which version you battle. Armored Mewtwo, a fan favorite for its rarity, can be obtained from five-star raids. If you can grab it, do it. This is one of the rarest Pokemon in the game.
How to Get the Gen 6 Starter Mega Evolutions
For the three Gen 6 starters, you must choose a path in the Timed Research. The community is leaning toward Mega Delphox because it deals more damage. However, there's a catch: you can only get two of the three starters. The only way to get more was attending the Pokemon World Championships in San Francisco last week, which offered one exclusive starter. Even then, you're limited to two out of three. There is currently no way to collect all three.
What's Next for Pokemon GO After the Mega Finale?
Don't worry, the action doesn't stop. On September 8, Pokemon GO launches Twilight Trails, introducing new Mega Evolutions like Mega Staraptor and Mega Chandelure, which debuted in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This new season runs until December 1, 2026, and includes a GO Pass and Major Milestones.
Mark your calendars for September 12: Gible Community Day is coming, giving players increased odds of finding the base form of fan-favorite Garchomp. Two more Community Days are scheduled for October and November, though details haven't been confirmed yet.
Why This Matters to Pokemon GO Players
Pokemon GO has always thrived on urgency. Missing these events means waiting months, or even years, for another chance. The game's FOMO mechanics are no secret, but for collectors and competitive players, these exclusives are worth the grind. Whether you're chasing the strongest Mega or the rarest Mewtwo, this weekend is your shot.
So get out there, hit those raids, and secure your prizes before the clock strikes 6 pm. Opportunity favors the prepared, and in the world of Pokemon GO, hesitation costs you.
